Captain Scott Hickman has been a charter boat captain for 35 years, along with being a commercial fisherman. He has managed coastal hunting and fishing lodges/ranches. Formerly, he’s served as the chairperson and councilmember at the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary. He’s also helped other fishermen learn about management processes on a Marine Resource Education Program (MREP) committee. Currently, he’s the vice chair of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council’s Coral Advisory Committee and serves as the chairperson for the Texas Sea Grant Advisory Committee. He’s an advocate for building a healthy blue economy, believing that sustainable aquaculture will be the cornerstone of keeping historical fishing communities vibrant. He aspires to help reshape the goals of the U.S. aquaculture program, decrease our reliance on imported seafood, and contribute to a safer and more prosperous nation.
