Mike Coogan

Dr. Michael Coogan (Research Assistant Professor, Center for Sustainable Seafood Systems, University of New Hampshire) is a marine scientist with over a decade of experience leading projects in sustainable aquaculture, environmental monitoring and gear development. Current projects include ecosystem modeling around finfish net pen aquaculture, design of whale-safe offshore sea scallop and kelp aquaculture farms using ropeless gear, and hosting the podcast “Get Aquacultured” to increase aquaculture literacy. He holds and operates several aquaculture permits in New Hampshire and Maine to culture finfish, bivalves, echinoderms and macroalgae. He also maintains an AAUS SCUBA diving certification and OUPV/6-Pack Captains license. He is a member of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea – Aquaculture advisory team and the Coalition for Sustainable Aquaculture.
