Susan Feniger

Culinarian, author, and entrepreneur Susan Feniger is known for Border Grill, the Modern Mexican restaurants, trucks, and catering business she runs with business partner Mary Sue Milliken. From Las Vegasto Los Angeles, Border Grill and its sister restaurants serve street food-inspired regional Mexican cuisine with a commitment to sustainability and the best ingredients.

Feniger and Milliken also brought their innovative approaches to The Food Network’s “Too Hot Tamales” and “Tamales World Tour” series, and Feniger competed on Bravo’s “Top Chef Masters” in 2010.

Feniger graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in New York and went on to join the nearly all-male kitchen at Chicago’s Le Perroquet, where Milliken was the only other female. After working for Wolfgang Puck at Ma Maison in Los Angeles, Feniger went to the French Riviera to further hone her skills before returning to Los Angeles to open City Café with Milliken in 1981. By 1985, it had transformed into Border Grill and a James Beard Award that same year confirmed their impact on the nation’s cuisine.

Feniger is an active member of the community, and sits on the boards of the Scleroderma Research Foundation, Los Angeles LGBT Center, and L.A. Tourism & Convention Board and co-founded Chefs Collaborative.
